emperor penguins

Recently I did a report on them.  Personally, I think baby Emperors are the CUTEST things in the world.  I mean, look at those fuzzy creatures.  I believe the one on the right is excited because he won the race, but the one on the left is pouting.  The one on the  right is probably older than the one on the left.  I would name the one on the right Tommy and the one on the left Sara.

The Late Gilly

He lived a long and happy life in which he brought me a new kind of peace.   Rest my beloved Gilly, you will be missed.     1/1/2010-10-15-2010  He leaves behind a sad and lonely dog as well as a wonderful master.

Buttons

Buttons come in all shapes and sizes.
A button with one eye is rare.
A button with two is common.
A button with three is not often discovered,
While a button with four is easily found.
Buttons have eyes that show their expressions,
Since they lack the mouths to speak.

Just for fun

Ocean

The ocean can't see,
So it won't look at me.
That's so mean, GEE!

The ocean can't fly,
So it can't be in the sky.
I'm so glad, OH MY!

The ocean can't eat,
So it can't chew up a treat.
Even with all that RAW MEAT.

Kivi

Hi, I am called Kivi but my nickname is Silk. I'm 2 years old and am the youngest in my family. My parents are slim and white, streaked through with black. My brother leaves for long periods at a time to visit other islands. He always brings back treasures. Recently he brought back some shiny, bendable paper that reflects the sunlight, which Mufatu likes.

My brother is quite tall for our species; he towers over me.  He stands 11 inches tall and every inch is crammed with short, matted feathers.  My feathers are clean, which leads to my pride of them. My feathers are different from my family's. They are white on my chest and the upper part of my wings, also my head. The middle part of my wings are grey and the bottom section of them is brown. My eyes are a calming shade of green, always showing kindness.

I'm friends with Uri the dog. Together on Saturday evenings, after we have eaten the food Mufatu made us, we play a game of chase. I am also friends with a strange bird of paradise named Mimi. She has an odd looking tail that looks like a broom. On top of her head are three large feathers that stick out like an Indian's Mohawk. She has a spunky attitude.

My diet consists of mainly my favorite foods. I enjoy eating the oil from coconuts. My very favorite food is fish that Uri likes also. Sometimes we fight over them and when we do, Mufatu catches another, one for me and one for Uri. I am fine with occasional pears and chestnuts I dropped on stones but I do not enjoy them as much as fish, fresh fish .

My favorite activity is playing a game Uri made up called Burrowing Owl. We pick a place to start and a place to end. Whoever emerges from their hole first wins the entire game. Because of this game there are lots of holes in the landscape of our island. Don't step in one! By the way, I advise you to not play this game if you don't like to get dirty. But otherwise, get out there and play this long, fun and maybe sometimes tedious burrowing game that my friend Uri and I made up.(Give all the credit to Uri, I didn't make it up!)

I do not like being soaked in sea water. If I am ever ridiculous enough to do that, I will not be able to fly for a day. But I do like eating peaches, but not roasted. If they are, I always throw them up, which, as you know, is definetly not a fun experience like going to a carnival at all.

Here are ten adjectives that describe me:

Funny

Fearful

Fast

Smart

Happy

Silky

Alert

Pretty

Sassy

Protective

My Papa Jim

Papa Jim is a slight, nice man with brown eyes that glitter like stars. He has grey hair and gentle creases around his joyful smile.  I think that his favorite color is blue, for he wears it quite often.

Papa Jim puts others before himself.  I believe he likes to hear me laugh.  He enjoys eating at Dewey's and seeing our dog Maya.  He also likes it when we read our work from school.  When I depart from my house to arrive at his work, I either draw or watch a movie.

Papa Jim can make friends with anyone.  He likes to talk about baseball to my dad.  He always talks about what to do in the future, and also plans ahead.  When he tells me to test my blood he speaks softly and after all my shots he kisses me.  When it comes to safety, nobody is more concerned than Papa Jim.  He is a great christian leader who applies the Word to his life.

But my favorite thing about Papa Jim is that no matter what I do, he still loves me.

Abe Lincoln's Property

A Creep While Half Asleep

Once during a dark, sleepy night, there was a ghost.  And out of all the people in the world to scare, this ghost, eeeeeeerrrrr...thing, chose to scare me.

I was lying in my bed, thinking, when I moved my hair.  This particular section of hair always gets in my face, it's not unusual.  All of a sudden, something slapped me on the face.  Something cold, frozen.  I lay there, helpless, paralyzed, believing my life was in danger.  Shortly after the slap, was another haunting experience.  ''I'm gonna get you,'' The cold voice seemed to seep out of nowhere.  I stared straight up at  the ceiling.  I was incredibly paniced, so I made up my mind to bolt to my Mom and Dad's bedroom.

I darted down the long hallway, the antecedant to their room.  The moon cast erie shadows on the wall.  I shivered in fear.  After speeding into their room I told the whole story.  They then comforted me by stating that the hand that slapped my face was probably my very own.  They also informed me that the voice I heard was probably my imagination, because it was very late and I needed rest.  This news reassured me and gave me peace.  I was so relieved, I literally flew to my lair and snuggled down in my bed and instantly fell asleep.

Courage

Courage is discovering, finding a cause.  In those many times you fail, do not give up.  Keep trying, the Lord is with you.  Courage is friendship, being daring.  Columbus was challenged many a time.  He bore through the harsh winds and violent waves until he came to Cuba.  Real courage is not just getting your blood drawn.  When you are in times of need and trouble, deep inside your heart a key is put into a lock, a door is opened, and out comes courage.  In place of you is a new you, lively and bursting with energy.  You, but better, with courage!  It is what everybody wants, everybody orders on tv!  But it never arrives on a doorstep in a brown cardboard box.  Courage is not an object that you can see or touch.  It is not given by the UPS man but by our Lord Jesus Christ.

The only way to have Courage is to believe in God.  He is our Eternal Father who guides us through life by training our actions and words.

What I did Today

Nothing out of the usual happened today.  I wrote my bible verse, did math, language and etc.  I  am not the best at language arts or math.  I guess that I should just try my hardest.  Enjoy this picture of Maya sniffing a turtle we rescued!

Name

Best Friends

  •   Today I am going over to my friend Abby Fakes' house.  We are probably going to play littlest pet shop, and maybe some sewer cat.  I am going to leave home to go to her house at 1pm.  I can't wait to see her. She is my best friend, and Anna is also.  I am going to invite both of them to my fantasy birthday party.

About the Title

You might be wondering why my Blog is called owls with towels. It's because of my favorite animal, a Barn Owl.  Thank the library, who launched me into my owl phase.  This is how it all started:  I had finished my reading sheet at the library, and was picking out a free book when I stumbled across a book called Guardians of Ga'hoole The Capture.  I picked it up, noticed that there was a owl on the
front, and decided I would take that one.  I didn't even know that this was the first book in a series of 16 that I would adore.  Now, 15 books later, I am still ga ga for Ga'hoole.
